Bald Eagle

macro shot of white and brown american eagle

The Bald Eagle (H. leucocephalus) is a staple and national bird of the United States of America. This bird was surprisingly decreasing in population but, has managed to increase in recent years.

The bald eagle is an amazing bird that can weigh up to 15 pounds and have a wingspan of over 7 feet!! For these reasons and their sharp claws, they are a feared predator in the wild. They feast on fish that they hunt at a diving speed up 75-99 mph, that is incredible! These eagles also work extremely hard at their homes. Their huge nests can weigh 2,000 pounds and sit at the top of some trees.
