brown squirrel

Our friendly neighborhood animal, the squirrel, is actually more intelligent than you might think. They also might not be what you expected either. Squirrels are classified into a family known as Sciuridae. This family contained small and medium sized rodents including six species of squirrel, the tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots, flying squirrels, and prairie dogs.

Squirrels are actually more intelligent than one might think. They can remember hundreds of locations of buried food and can even find it in a foot of snow! However, other squirrels often steal food so, some squirrels pretend to hide food to trick others. They can have up to 25% of their food supply for the winter stolen.

  1. Interesting……..you responded to a post of mine, and I checked your site. I am a follower now. 🙂 The first article of yours I read was on the squirrels. It just happens our lawn guy had us come out and check this hole in the ground. It was about 3 inches deep and about 4-5 inches in diameter. I told my wife it look like it may have been a squirrel, possibly a possum. There was as a much smaller hole next to it. Like they started to dig deep but then quit, some of the grass was over hanging the hole. We were shown this hole just today, this morning. Then I come in and find your article on squirrels, by accident…….or chance. Probably a sign my first choice of a squirrel is right! Have a great day. I think I can learn a lot by following your blog. Thanks!
